Daniel Adamovic plays his garage-made debut album to a Watford crowd at JD's Events Centre on Friday 13 November. Doors 7pm, tickets £12.50, over-18s only.

Watford singer-songwriter Daniel Adamovic will play his debut album, Instinct to Overthink, to an audience at JD’s Events Centre, the bar above Dunnings 2 on the High Street, on Friday 13 November, before the record comes out later that month. He wrote and produced it himself in his parents’ garage in Watford.

Doors open at 7pm and tickets are £12.50 on the event’s Ticket Tailor page. The night is for over-18s only.

A record made in “the stu”

Daniel describes the album as “a proper homegrown project”.

“I’ve been writing and self-producing it entirely out of my parents garage (‘the stu’) here in Watford,” he told Watford Today. “It draws from a mix of genres such as electronic, indie, rap, acoustic and a cappella. It’s a very honest record about the time I went through a confusing existential period in my life and I had to re-become the person I was before but with maybe now more love.”

On the event page he says the idea for the album came about four years ago: “After years of ups and downs with it, it is finally done! (yay)”

How the night runs

The evening starts with the album played in full. “I’m going to play the album and share the personal stories and ideas behind each song,” Daniel said. “After the playback, we are having a massive party!”

His event page sets out the rest. He is bringing his DJ decks and a couple of microphones, and will open them up “so anyone can have a go (don’t u dare kill the vibe tho!!!)”. He asks people to arrive by 7.30pm so they do not miss the playback, to be respectful if they come in while it is playing, and says latecomers are still welcome for the party. The listing runs until 1am.

He is clear the night is not just for people he knows. “This event is also being done off my own back and I really want to let locals know that this isn’t just an event for my friends and family,” he said. “This is going to be an evening of great entertainment through the medium of music and songwriting. This will give the audience that same big feeling you get when you go see a movie or a play.”

“Since it’s 100% made in Watford and I have always loved Watford,” he added, he wanted the town to hear about it.

Paying for it himself

Daniel describes himself as a fully independent artist. “Everything I create is fully funded by myself. The gear, the instruments, the softwares, the time,” he writes on the ticket page, which also has an optional donation box at checkout. “It’s not needed at all, but if you appreciate what I do and can donate something, just know it really reduces my stress levels and will go towards making more awesome creations.”

As well as music, he works as a magician; his music and bookings are on his website, and his existing releases are on Spotify and YouTube.
