Watford's Diwali celebration is Sunday 1 November, 11am to 7.30pm, free, across the town centre. What is confirmed, and how 2025's two-day festival ran.
Watford’s Diwali celebration is on Sunday 1 November 2026, from 11am to 7.30pm, across the town centre. Entry is free and everyone is welcome. The full running order and the parade route have not been published yet.
The quick answer
- Sunday 1 November, 11am to 7.30pm, free, no ticket.
- Four locations: Watford High Street, Harlequin Watford, Pondside and Watford Palace Theatre.
- Confirmed so far: diya making, cultural performances, a Festival of Light parade and a rangoli lighting ceremony.
- Not yet published: times for each part of the day, the parade route and any food market. The organiser says “further information is on its way”.
What is confirmed for 2026
The date and times come from the Watford Town Centre BID’s own listing, Diwali Celebrations 2026, read on 30 September. It describes “a day full of creativity, colour, culture, community and celebration” and lists four free daytime activities:
- Diya making, the small clay lamps lit at Diwali
- Cultural performances
- A Festival of Light parade
- A rangoli lighting ceremony
The venues it names are Harlequin Watford (the listing also says Harlequin Charter Place), Watford High Street, Pondside and Watford Palace Theatre. It does not say which activity happens where, or at what time.
This year is one day, not a weekend
In 2025 Watford’s Diwali ran over two days, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, branded Watford Diwali: Festival of Lights. The council said it was supporting community partners to put it on, with money from the Watford Community Fund. For 2026 the BID lists a single day, a Sunday, three weeks later in the year.
The 2025 programme, from the council’s events site Watford Actually (the page has since been taken down, and is read here via the Internet Archive), is the best guide to the shape of the day:
| 2025, Saturday 11 October | |
|---|---|
| Pump House Theatre | Children’s Diwali performance 9am to 11.30am, Hindu Civilisation Exhibition 9am to 3pm, Indian street food market 11am to 3pm, arts and crafts workshop 1.30pm to 3pm |
| Harlequin Event Space | Rangoli, bead and diya making workshop 11am to 4pm, then cultural performances including Bharat Natyam from 4pm |
| The parade | 5.45pm, from the Harlequin to the pond, led by the Mayor, with singers and dhol players from the Hare Krishna Temple |
| The pond | Cultural performance and speeches, then the Mayor switched on the Diwali lights at 7pm |
On the Sunday, Watford Palace Theatre hosted the Hindu Civilisation Exhibition from 10am to 8pm and an evening production by Subrang Arts.
The BID’s round-up of that weekend, published 13 October 2025, says the events drew “thousands of visitors” and that the LED tree lights on the High Street and The Parade were lit in Diwali colours through the weekend.
None of those 2025 times should be taken as this year’s. The 2026 activities overlap with 2025’s (diya making, performances, a parade, a lighting moment), but the Pump House is not on this year’s list of venues and no food market has been announced.
Who is behind it
The 2025 festival was delivered by a group of partners the council and the BID both listed, including P2M, the World Council of Hindus UK, the Watford Town Centre BID, Watford Palace Theatre, Harlequin Watford, Watford Pump House, the Watford Indian Association, the School of Bhakti, the Museum of Watford and Bhaktivedanta Manor. The BID’s announcement of the 2025 programme came on 1 October 2025, ten days before the event. Expect this year’s detail during October, and we will update this page when it lands.
Getting there and parking
All four 2026 locations are in the town centre: the Palace Theatre, the Harlequin and Pondside are within a short walk of each other. For trains, see our Watford train times page.
The BID has not published any road closures for the day. For car parks and tariffs, see our Watford parking page. Check our roadworks and travel page for weekend rail and road works before you set out.
The rest of that week
Diwali falls on the last day of the October half term break for most Watford schools. The BID’s free trick or treat trail runs on the High Street and The Parade from 26 to 30 October, and the council’s free fireworks are in Cassiobury Park on Saturday 7 November. See our October half term page, the Watford fireworks page and everything else in what’s on in Watford this month.
